BIOGRAPHY
Professional composer since the age of 19, Gabriel Iwasaki is a classical formed pianist who took his passion as his career, going for Musical Composition at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
He has won 1st place at the international piano competition “Pianoteq Video Contest” 2014’s edition and has been finalist at both the 2015 and 2016 edition.
He is the first peruvian to get the finals of the “International Antonin Dvorak Composition Competition” held in the conservatory of Prague, Czech Republic in 2018. He has been also a finalist in the 2019 edition.
In 2020, he was awarded in two different international compositions competitions: 4th place in the “Michal Kleofas Oginski Composition Competition” and 3rd place in “The New Vienna Symphony Composers Competition”, held in Belarus and Austria respectively, for his composition “Scenes from the Andes”, a symphonic composition dedicated to Peru, his country, where he blends traditional peruvian folk music with the orchestral genre.
He has released two studio albums where he combines his classical roots with his deep and profound love for the progressive genre: “The Journey of Life” (2015) and “the Journey Continues” (2018).
In 2016 he becomes the keyboard player and arranger for Flor de Loto, peruvian folk progressive rock band. In early 2017, this album was awarded as the “2016 best metal album” in the “Premios Luces” award competition, organized by the biggest peruvian newspaper outlet “El Comercio”. One year later, Flor de Loto releases “Eclipse”, their biggest album produced to date, produced by internationally acclaimed producer Roy Z, for which they toured the USA, culminating the tour by filming a Live Blu-Ray/DVD called “Live at Rosfest 2018”.
Iwasaki has also composed music for several theater plays, TV spots, Smartphone Apps, short films and even for big Retail Stores in Peru. He has been an exclusive composer for audio visual company 7 Cats Art Studio, the studios behind “Genesis Universe, the first all-digital peruvian comic book.
He is currently working as a freelance composer, educator, pianist, arranger, and producer, composing mainly for multimedia and publicity. He is also working on a third solo album entitled “The End of a Journey”, which will be released in the near future, as well as a second symphonic album dedicated to Peru’s 200 years of independence celebration.
