"Scenes from the Andes" - Orchestral Score + Audio File
On the verge of the celebration of Peru’s 200 years of independence on 2021, “Scenes from the Andes” builds on the legacy of Peruvian folk music and traditional Andean music.
Combining original Peruvian-sounding melodies with more contemporary orchestral and cinematic sonorities, this piece seeks to present a Peruvian-sounding piece in a lan- guage most people could appreciate and enjoy. Peruvian traditional folk music has been historically been left out from the classical or orchestral genre and, as such, this piece seeks to enhance a sense of national musical identity for Peruvians in the context of the celebration of Peru’s 200 years of independence celebration.
As the composer of this work, my aim is for the listener to imagine the Peruvian Andes Mountains while listening to this composition, even perhaps picturing a condor flying over the snowy mountains of the Andes.
This composition has been awarded at two different European international composi- tions competitions: “Michal Kleofas Oginsky International Composition Competition” in Minsk, Belarus and “The New Symphony Composers Competition” in Vienna, Austria.
Composed while on quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, this composi- tion also attempts to bring a sense of unity and togetherness among Peruvians amidst these difficult times, since Peru has been one of the countries hit the hardest by this global pandemic.
